Early Life

Brandon Stanton, who grew up in Marietta, Georgia, was born on March 1, 1984. The Internet holds no information about his parents, nor the fact whether or not he had any siblings. However, if this information ever leak to the public eye, you will be informed.

After graduating from The Walker School, he studied history at the University of Georgia.

Career

What was once a hobby became a full-time profession after Stanton lost his job. He then gripped his camera and strolled the streets of downtown Chicago. Sometime after, he moved to NYC and made it his goal to photograph 10,000 people and plot them on a New York City map. He also posted the portraits of his fellow New Yorkers on a Facebook page he had started in November 2010, titled Humans of New York.

What were once tiny quotes under each picture grew to be full interviews. Just like the descriptions of the people, the page’s success grew. Around three years after the start of this journey, Stanton’s original book titled Humans of New York was published in October 2013.

The book was widely recognized. It made number 1 on The New York Times Non- Fiction Best Sellers and stayed on the list for another 26 weeks. The author also wrote another book with the same topic, titled Humans of New York: Stories. It was as successful as the first one.

During the summer of 2014, he had been given a task to travel to the Middle East and do the same thing he did in New York- photograph people and document what they had to say. It was a 50-day trip around ten countries. The following summer, he was invited to the same thing, now in Iran and Pakistan. To finish his stay in Pakistan with a cherry on top, Stanton funded over $2 million to help end bonded labor in the country.
