Did Jeremy Strong wear Kendall Roy’s ‘Succession’ suit to the 2019 Emmys?
Jeremy Strong seems to be be morphing into his “Succession” character.
On Sunday night’s episode of the HBO show, Kendall Roy, the eldest son of media scion Logan Roy, stunned fans (and immediately went viral) with a surprise rap performance dedicated to his father. However, the suit he wore to honor the Roy family patriarch’s legacy at a special 50-year anniversary party may have stood out to those with a keen eye for the real-life actor’s wardrobe.
As a few sharp-eyed fans pointed out on Twitter, and Vulture first reported, that it seems Strong, 40, held on to the brown suit from the fictional fancy affair and wore it to the 2019 Emmys on September 22, exactly one week before his character would sport the same look on TV.
The distinct outfit features a satin or silk lapel, which both Strong and Roy paired with a matching bowtie. However, for the award show, Strong also added a dapper double-breasted vest in place of the pinstriped Logan-themed baseball jersey Kendall kept hidden until his big performance.
Strong’s wife Gillie even wore a black silk halter top gown to the Emmys that looked strikingly similar to the navy style Shiv Roy, Kendall’s fiery sister, wore in the same episode.
The show, which debuted in 2018 and has been renewed for a third season, won the Emmy for Best Main Title Theme Music and was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series and Casting for a Drama Series.
If all else fails, it appears the Strongs already have their Halloween couples costume picked out.
HBO, “Succession” costume designer Michelle Matland and a rep for Strong did not immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment or confirmation.Jeremy Strong at the 2019 Emmys with his wife Gillie, who wore a halter dress reminiscent of one that Shiv Roy sported in the same episode.
